WARNING

NOTE: This article refers to the old www.aauw.org. The site was completely revamped in the Fall of 2007. If you'd like to volunteer to update this page for the new site, feel free to take a stab. Otherwise, just use this as a starting point for things that can be found on www.aauw.org, but beware that many of the links have changed.

Introduction

Welcome to a tour of the resources available at www.aauw.org. Feel free to bookmark this page and use it to find something you remember seeing in these pages. The point of this repository, though, is to give you an overview of the resources available. Once you know that an item exists, you will probably be able to find it from www.aauw.org directly.

This wiki is a VOLUNTEER driven effort. Do NOT call the Helpline or any other contact at the Association if you have problems with this site. If you have a comment or would like to contribute, please contact the maintainers of this site.

Please check the prerequisites document to be sure you will be able to use all of these resources. It also includes a Image:PDF.gifhandout Image:Info_circle.png with some key information.

While you work through the rest of this material, you may find this Image:PDF.gifnotesheet Image:Info_circle.png useful for capturing the items that seem important to you.

On to the Tour

Feel free to explore the following sections in any order that makes sense to you.

  1. Online Publications - Where to find the periodicals that are published for the members
  2. Online Communications - How do the members communicate with each other, the staff, and the public? What are the key mailing lists? What other tools are important?
  3. Membership Resources - Information to help with membership recruiting and retention
  4. Program Resources - Information to help with projects and other programming
  5. Public Policy Resources - From advocacy to voter guides, here's the public policy gold mine
  6. Forms - Ah, the backbone of the organization ... Here's where to find the right form for any purpose
  7. Directories - Looking for a real person? Here are ways to contact volunteers and staff, and information on fellows and plaintiffs.
  8. What else do you need to know - Resources and checklists to get the most out of your online access

Please send us your comments

We're interested to know what parts of this you found useful -- and if you'd like to help improve the Tour, c'mon in! The Wiki's fine!

This information was presented at the 2006 South Atlantic/Southeast Central Regional meeting and was very well received. There are a few holes -

  • Location of a powerpoint giving an overview of the organization for new members? One prepared by AAUW WI and presented at the 2004 conference of state leaders was recommended, but it didn't jump out in a quick search of the resources posted for that conference.
  • Notes on copying text from PDFs. [According to a quick check of O'Reilly's PDF Hacks, this is a feature that appears in version 5 and can be installed in version 6 of the reader.] See this article from Microsoft on How to copy text and graphics from Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files. The key is to find the "text select" tool (or it's companion "graphics select" tool) in the Reader and click that before you try to use the mouse to select the text you want to copy. The Microsoft article Acrobat 4, 5 and 6, but the tool does appear in 7.

Other holes

We've plugged some holes reported by the SA/SEC meeting attendees. Find information on international efforts on the Program Resources page, info on applying for Association and Foundation positions on the Forms page, and there's a link to the teleseminars on the Online Communications page.

If you've other suggestions or comments, please write nancy.shoemaker AT aauwnc.org or set up an account on this wiki and post the information directly.
